Justice Scott J. DelConte was born in Syracuse, New York, and is a graduate of Cornell University (B.S., 1995) and Washington & Lee University School of Law (J.D., 1998). In 2018, Justice DelConte was elected to the New York State Supreme Court, Fifth Judicial District, to serve a 14-year term. As a trial judge, he presided over the Fifth Judicial District’s asbestos litigation as well as civil cases in Onondaga, Oneida and Oswego Counties and multi-district election law proceedings. On July 27, 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul appointed Justice DelConte to the Appellate Division, Fourth Department. Following his admission to the bar in 1999, Justice DelConte began his legal career as an associate in the litigation department of Bond, Schoeneck, and King. He was elected member (partner) of Bond, Schoeneck & King in 2007, and later managed the firm’s office in Oswego. In 2017, he started his own law firm, DelConte Law Firm. While in private practice for nearly twenty years, Justice DelConte handled complex civil litigation for both plaintiffs and defendants, and represented a diverse array of clients including individuals, non-profits, businesses, religious organizations and a public authority. For over a decade, Justice DelConte also served as general counsel and chancellor to the governing annual conferences of the United Methodist Church in central and western New York. He is a former president of the Oswego County Bar Association and past member of the Oswego County judicial screening committee. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Justice DelConte previously served on the executive boards of the Agricultural Society of Oswego County and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, and regularly participates in various 4-H programs with his family, including exhibiting livestock at the Oswego County Fair. Justice DelConte and his wife, Heather, live on the family farm in Volney with their four children.
